Congrats! You've completed our complimentary workout and managed to get your mattress inside. Unboxing your new mattress is an exciting experience, but it's important to do it correctly to ensure the longevity and comfort of your purchase. Following these steps will help you set it up quickly and easily.

1. Prepare the Unboxing Area and Bed Frame

Before opening the box, make sure the bed frame and the area where you intend to place your mattress is cleared and ready.

  • Check that the frame is sturdy and cleared of any items that might obstruct the mattress placement.
  • If you're using a platform bed or a slatted frame, check that the slats are evenly spaced to provide adequate support.

2. Remove the Mattress from the Box

Gently pull the plastic-wrapped mattress out of the box. Be mindful of its weight and size, and you might need a helping hand for this step.

  • Place the rolled mattress in the desired location, ideally close to the bed frame.
  • Remember, once you cut the plastic, air will rush into the packaging and the mattress will start to expand rapidly. So it's important to have it in the right spot beforehand.

3. Carefully Cut the Plastic

Using a pair of scissors, carefully cut through the plastic packaging.

  • Pay extra attention during this process as the mattress cover can be easily damaged if you're not careful.
  • It's best to cut away from the mattress surface to avoid any accidental nicks or tears in the fabric.

4. Position the Mattress Correctly

Once the mattress is free from the plastic packaging, ensure that the mattress is right-side-up.

  • An easy way to check this is to look for the Boring Mattress logo, which is the orange patch located at the front left foot of the bed.

5. Allow Time for Expansion and Settling

After opening the mattress, you may notice that certain parts are not fully expanded or that there are wrinkles in the mattress cover. This is normal due to the compression during shipping.

  • Important: The mattress may feel quite firm or uneven right after unboxing. This is temporary. It can take up to 3 days and a night for the mattress to reach its full support and comfort.
  • During this period, try not to use heavy bedding or mattress toppers as they can slow down the expansion and settling process.
  • You can sleep on it the same day you unbox it - most people do. However, be aware that the optimal comfort and feel of the mattress will develop over the first few nights as the mattress settles.
